People Are Like Frogs

There is a parable that, although morally questionable, clearly describes the world we live in.
 
As the story goes, if you want to cook a frog, you must place it in a pot of cool water and very gradually apply heat.  The frog that is placed in already-hot-water will sense the danger and immediately leap out.  If the cool water is heated gradually enough, the frog does not notice that it is being cooked until it is too late.
